We highly recommend bringing warm clothing (a thick jacket, beanie, gloves) for the cold temperatures at Bromo and Ijen. Also, pack comfortable trekking shoes, a small backpack, a personal camera, sunscreen, and sandals or waterproof shoes for the Tumpak Sewu Waterfall.

The Ijen crater hike is of moderate difficulty. It involves a 3-kilometer trek uphill on a well-defined path, which typically takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. Some sections can be steep, but it is manageable for anyone with a reasonable level of fitness.

What is the difficulty level of the Mount Bromo hike?

The Mount Bromo trek is considered easy. A 4WD Jeep will take you to the main viewpoint and then to the 'Sea of Sand' parking area. From there, it's a relatively flat walk followed by a climb up a staircase of about 250 steps to the crater rim.

Start your day at midnight with a drive to Paltuding (Ijen parking area), which takes around 1.5 hours. From there, trek to the Ijen Crater rim (1–1.5 hours). At the crater rim, take in the mesmerizing view of the turquoise sulfuric lake and witness the sulfur miners in action. After sunrise, enjoy a brief stop at Malabar Coffee for a drink and snack. After the coffee break, head back to your hotel in Bondowoso for a shower and lunch before checking out. Continue the journey to your homestay in Jember City for an overnight stay.
