LogisticsGUIDE / BROMO-LOGISTICS

Mount Bromo: jeep, timing & sunrise.

Bromo sunrise means a 00:30-01:00 hotel pickup and a private 4WD jeep transfer to King Kong Hill or Penanjakan at 2,329m altitude. JVTO sequences the night so your vehicle reaches the right viewpoint before the jeep pool at Cemoro Lawang clears.

A Bromo sunrise runs from a 00:30-01:00 hotel pickup and a private 4WD jeep transfer to King Kong Hill, Penanjakan, Seruni Point or Mentigen Hill. From the jeep drop-off it is a 30-minute walk across the sea of sand, then 253 stone steps up the cone. Expect 3-8°C at the rim in dry season.

King Kong Hill

Mid-elevation, balanced light, less crowded.

Penanjakan 1

Highest, most iconic, busiest.

Seruni Point

Lowest, quietest, partial caldera view.

Mentigen Hill

Vehicle & temperature

Our 4WD jeeps seat up to 6. Heating is limited. We supply blankets and hot drinks at the viewpoint. Expect 3-8°C at the rim in dry season; freezing in July/August.

What to wear

  1. 1Thermal base layer + fleece + windbreaker (4-5 layers in winter).
  2. 2Hiking shoes with grip - the caldera floor is volcanic sand.
  3. 3Buff or scarf for ash protection during the crater walk.
  4. 4Headlamp - JVTO supplies one if you do not have it.

The crater walk
